Quantum’s sustainability overview considers stakeholder engagement as one of the main initiatives to implement effective and respectful actions towards the environment and the communities surrounding its assets.
According to João Carlos de Oliveira, responsible for the area dealing with the Environmental, Land and ESG theme, Quantum seeks to understand the regions where its concessions are inserted, respect the regional character and seek means of communication aimed at each public involved.
In this sense, Quantum’s Stakeholder Engagement Plan (PES) was born out of the company’s desire to get closer to its stakeholders, especially those present in the regions where its concessions pass. This plan was organized based not only on field surveys carried out through the Social Registry and Participatory Socio-Environmental Diagnosis (DSAP) in each of the concessions fully managed by the company, but also on interviews and consultations with internal and external stakeholders carried out for the composition of the company’s materiality matrix.
The PES is applied in new communities, as the company takes over the management of new concessions. In the places where they are present, Quantum’s undertakings can not only contribute to regional sustainable development, through the socio-
environmental programs required in the environmental licensing process, but also make use of other projects promoted by the company, based on actions with the aim of to cooperate for sustainable results with an impact on communities.
The Stakeholder Engagement Plan is part of the company’s ESG strategy and includes mandatory and voluntary actions. We highlight the annual awareness actions aimed at the conscious use of land where the transmission lines pass. Such actions focus on land use with permitted activities, as well as the protection of the region through anti-burning campaigns.
In recognition of one of the aforementioned campaigns, a member of the community in the municipality of Jussara, Bahia, wrote the Cordel “O Caminho da Energia” as a record of what was dealt with and presented to the field teams.
Cordel is a typically Brazilian art, very representative in regions where Quantum has already operated its assets, so it is a very meaningful and authorial gift. It demonstrates that communication and stakeholder engagement are being effective, adds João.
